A finch's beak is built for small seeds, not the sunflower-heavy mixes aimed at bigger cage birds, which is why a finch-specific blend tends to leave less waste in the bowl than a general-purpose mix a finch can't easily manage.

Bestpets' Foreign Finch mix is built from yellow millet, panicum millet, canary seed and nigerseed — small, finch-appropriate seeds throughout rather than a mix designed around a larger bird and hoped to suit a finch too. Bestpets describe the high carbohydrate content as good for energy, with additional benefits of oil, protein and fibre coming from the mix of seed types.
