Pet beds usually get pushed to the edge of the room because nobody wants to look at them. A curved bentwood frame is the rare exception, using the same shaping found on mid-century chairs, raised off the floor on its own legs, with the cushion sitting down inside the curve rather than slumped across the carpet. It reads as a small piece of furniture, which is precisely the point of it.

Bentwood is timber steamed and formed to a curve rather than cut to one, so the grain follows the shape and the frame keeps its strength through the bend. Practically, that gives a light, open-sided bed with very little bulk to it, which suits a small room. The cushion lifts out for washing, and being raised keeps the animal clear of the draught that runs along a hard floor.

• 58cm long, 35.5cm deep and 22cm high
• Curved bentwood frame
• Raised on legs in an open sofa shape
• Removable cushion for washing
• Three finishes: black walnut, red walnut or North American yellow oak
• One size only

On sizing. 58 by 35.5cm is the outside of the frame, and the curved sides take some of that back, so the usable bed is smaller again. This suits a curled cat or a genuinely small dog, a Cavalier or a Yorkshire Terrier rather than a spaniel or a beagle.

Who it's for: Cats and small dogs who curl to sleep, in homes where the pet bed has to survive the same taste test as the rest of the furniture.
