External parasites on a cage bird are easy to miss until a bird's condition visibly suffers, which is why a targeted insecticidal spray matters more in aviaries than it might for a dog or cat. Beaphar's Insecticidal Spray for Birds is built specifically for that job.

It contains permethrin, sprayed against the natural lay of the feathers, starting at the rear and working towards the head, avoiding the head and non-feathered areas directly. Dosing is by size: 1-2 pumps for small birds, 3-5 pumps for larger birds.
