Specifications

Brand: Beaphar

Full description

A burrowing mite problem in a rabbit or guinea pig is not something to guess your way through with a general-purpose spray — this one is described by Beaphar as vet strength precisely because it is a proper veterinary medicine, not a grooming product.

This is an ivermectin-based spray (0.02% w/v) for the treatment and prevention of mange in rabbits, guinea pigs and rats, applied by parting the fur with a gloved hand to reach the skin underneath. Beaphar publish a full dosing table by species, age and bodyweight on the pack — that instruction should be followed exactly rather than estimated.

A genuine safety warning. Beaphar's own label states that serious reactions, including deaths, have been reported in dogs and in tortoises and turtles — this product is for rabbits, guinea pigs and rats only. It must not be used on animals under 4 weeks old, or on pregnant, lactating, sick or convalescent animals, and contact with eyes or mucous membranes should be avoided. Follow the dosing instructions on the pack precisely, and speak to a vet if you have any doubt.

Who it's for: owners of a rabbit, guinea pig or rat with a confirmed or suspected mange problem, working from a vet's diagnosis or clear guidance rather than a guess.

Why we chose it

This is a proper veterinary-strength treatment rather than a vague 'skin spray', which matters when the problem is genuinely mites rather than dry skin. We stock it because mange is common enough in guinea pigs, especially in autumn, that owners need access to something that actually treats it.
