A tin marked 'complementary' rather than 'complete' is doing a specific job — topping up or varying a diet, not replacing the whole of it — and it's worth knowing which one you're buying before a kitten eats nothing else.

This is 46% tuna fillet in jelly, with rice flour and a vegetable gelling agent, made for kittens up to 12 months old of all breeds. At 85% moisture, it's a genuinely wet food rather than a gravy poured over dry pieces.

• Pack of 6 tins
• 46% tuna fillet, in jelly
• Protein 12%, fat 1%, fibre 0.1%, ash 1%, moisture 85%
• Complementary food, not a complete one
• For kittens up to 12 months old, all breeds
• Made with natural ingredients — no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives

On complete vs complementary. Applaws are explicit that this is complementary, meant to sit alongside their complete dry kitten food rather than replace it — a kitten fed on this and nothing else would be missing whatever a complete food supplies. If it's the only wet food in the bowl, pair it with a complete dry or wet food rather than feeding it on its own.

Who it's for: owners of a kitten under 12 months who want a wet topper or some variety alongside a complete food, rather than a standalone diet.
