A muzzle is one of the few pieces of dog kit bought under stress rather than in advance - after a vet visit goes badly, after a nervous reaction on a walk, after a warning from a trainer. What matters at that point is a fit that actually works, not a design that looks the part.

The Ancol Plastic Dog Muzzle is made from durable plastic with a pre-moulded shape, built to protect other people and animals around a dog that is nervous or aggressive in certain situations, or to stop a dog eating things it finds on walks or licking at a wound. It is strong and secure while still letting a dog drink and pant normally, which is the difference between a muzzle a dog tolerates and one it fights constantly. Ancol make nine sizes of this muzzle, sized by the measurement around the dog's nose and the muzzle's own length.

• Durable plastic construction
• Pre-moulded shape for fit and comfort
• Allows normal drinking and panting while worn
• Nine sizes available, sized by nose circumference and muzzle length
• Made by Ancol

On sizing. Because this comes in nine sizes and the fit depends on an accurate measurement around your own dog's nose, guessing a size from the breed name alone is how a muzzle ends up too tight or loose enough to slip. Measure your dog before ordering rather than after.

Who it's for: owners who need a secure muzzle for vet visits, grooming, or situations where a dog is likely to react, and who are able to measure their dog's nose properly before choosing a size.
