Ancol Cat Collar Hi Viz

A cat that goes out after tea does most of its roaming in the half-hour when drivers have not quite decided whether it is dark yet. Reflective print does nothing for the cat and everything for the person in the car, which is the entire argument for a hi-viz collar over a pretty one.

The reflective element is printed as a repeating cat pattern along the strap, so the whole length of it catches headlights rather than one small tag. Two safety features come as standard on Ancol cat collars: a break-away buckle, which lets the cat pull free if the collar snags while they are climbing, and a bell, which gives birds a warning the cat would rather they did not get. Ancol's fitting instruction is to leave room for two fingers between the collar and the neck, and to check the fit every day.

What the label does not say. Ancol supplied us no neck-size range, no strap width and no material for this collar, so if your cat is a large adult or a kitten, there is nothing published we can point you at to check it will fit. Two other things worth knowing: the packaging asks you to take the collar off while a liquid flea treatment is on the coat, because the treatment can react with the collar materials, and nothing tells us whether the bell can be removed for a cat who never settles with one.

Who it's for: owners of an outdoor cat who comes and goes in the dark half of the year, particularly anyone who lives near a road and has been putting off buying a collar because the last one came back without the cat.
