Bouncy toys that move unpredictably tend to hold a dog's attention longer than anything that behaves the way a ball is expected to, because the dog can't fully predict where it's going next.

This is Ancol's Bouncing Sprout, a 14cm novelty toy shaped like a Brussels sprout, sold as a single unit for dogs, part of the brand's Christmas range.

• 14cm size
• Sprout design, built to bounce
• Ancol brand
• Sold as a single toy

What the makers don't tell us. No material or weight is published for this toy beyond the 14cm size and the "bouncing" description, so we can't confirm exactly what it's made from or how hard it bounces compared with a standard rubber ball.

Who it's for: owners after a seasonal novelty toy from a brand they recognise, for a dog that enjoys chasing something that moves unpredictably.
