Dogs sleep curled against something. It is why they push into sofa corners and why a flat mat in the middle of a room gets politely ignored: there is nothing to brace a spine against. On sizing: measure your dog from nose to the base of the tail while they are lying stretched out, then buy a bed longer than that number. The bolsters eat into the space, so the outside dimension is not the sleeping area. Weight guides mislead badly here, since a lean lurcher and a stocky bulldog can weigh the same and need different beds.
