Details
A muzzle is a management tool rather than a punishment, and the ones that fail do so because they are uncomfortable enough that the dog spends the walk fighting them instead of walking. Open mesh is light, between 25g and 60g depending on the size, and air moves through it, so a dog is far more likely to accept it and leave it alone for the length of an outing.
The head strap adjusts and closes with a quick-release buckle, so it goes on and comes off in a single movement, which counts for a lot when you are fitting it one-handed in a car park with the lead in the other. Five sizes run from XS through to XL, matched on snout circumference and neck rather than on the dog's weight, because two dogs of identical weight can have completely different faces. Used properly, it stops scavenging on walks, which is more often the reason people buy one than any question of biting.

How to measure
- Mouth circumference: measure right round the closed muzzle, about 2cm below the eyes.
- Neck: measure round the base of the neck where the strap will sit.
- Allow enough room for your dog to pant - never squeeze the jaw shut.
