A dog that empties the bowl in ninety seconds has not been fed so much as refuelled, and the gap between eating and being satisfied is where a lot of begging and counter-surfing comes from. Scattering the same food through dense fabric fronds turns that ninety seconds into a proper ten-minute job of nose work, and dogs come away from it settled in a way that a bowl never achieves.

The mat is round with a drawstring edge, which does two useful things. Pulled tight, it gathers into a bowl shape so nothing scatters across the kitchen floor and the whole thing stores flat in a cupboard. Opened out, the fronds stand up densely enough that kibble drops out of sight and has to be hunted rather than spotted. It is machine washable, which is not optional once wet food or oily treats have been through it.

• Round snuffle mat with a drawstring edge
• Fronds dense enough to hide kibble and small treats
• Gathers into a bowl for storage and easy carrying
• Machine washable fabric
• Two colours: green and blue
• Suits large breeds and smaller dogs alike

Two things worth knowing. Count what goes into the mat as part of your dog's daily food rather than adding it on top, or the enrichment quietly becomes weight gain. And this is a foraging mat, not a chew toy. Dogs who chew fabric will pull fronds loose and swallow them, so use it while you are in the room and put it away afterwards. We hold no published dimensions, so ask if size matters to you.

Who it's for: Fast eaters, and clever dogs who need something to occupy them on days when a long walk is not happening.
