TetraMin fish food
TetraMin is a widely used staple flake food for tropical aquarium fish, made by Tetra. We stock a selection from the TetraMin range alongside our other fish food and aquarium lines, and it is one of the most recognisable names on that shelf.
What TetraMin is for
TetraMin flakes are designed as a complete daily food for a wide range of tropical community fish, rather than a food built around one specific species. It is the kind of everyday staple many fishkeepers reach for as the main food in a mixed tropical tank.
As with any flake food, the amount to feed depends on your tank size, the number and type of fish, and how much uneaten food is left after a few minutes, rather than a fixed measure that suits every setup. Watching your fish and your water quality tells you more than any single scoop size printed on a tub.
What we stock, and who it suits
We stock TetraMin flakes as one of our staple fish food lines, alongside other Tetra products in our fish and pond ranges. What is shown in the grid above reflects what we currently have available to order, since stock can change from one week to the next.
TetraMin suits most keepers of mixed tropical community tanks looking for a reliable everyday food, rather than a specialist diet for a single unusual species. For fish with more specific dietary needs, a food matched to that species is generally a better starting point than a general staple alone.
Keeping flake food in good condition
Flake food loses some of its nutritional value once the tub has been open a while, particularly if it is stored somewhere warm or damp, so keeping the lid tightly closed between feeds and storing it away from direct heat helps it last as long as the tub suggests it should.
Buying a size of tub that your tank will get through in a reasonable time is worth thinking about too, since a small tank getting through a large tub very slowly is more likely to be feeding on flakes that have been open for months than one matched to actual daily use.

Common questions
- How much TetraMin should I feed my fish?
- Feed only what your fish can eat within a couple of minutes, once or twice a day, rather than a fixed measured amount. Overfeeding is one of the most common mistakes in fishkeeping and leads to uneaten food fouling the water rather than any benefit to the fish.
- Is TetraMin suitable for all tropical fish?
- It is designed as a general staple for a wide range of community tropical fish, but some species have more specific dietary needs that a general flake food does not fully cover. Check what your particular fish need if you are keeping anything beyond a standard mixed community tank.
- Does Giddy Pets stock the whole Tetra range?
- No, we stock a selection of Tetra products including TetraMin rather than the entire catalogue. What is shown above reflects what we currently have available to order, and that can change as stock does from one week to the next.
- How long does a tub of TetraMin last once opened?
- It depends on tank size and how much you feed, but flake food is best used within a few months of opening rather than kept indefinitely, since it gradually loses nutritional value once exposed to air. Buying a tub size matched to how quickly you will use it keeps the food fresher for longer.
