What to look for in a shampoo for this coat type
A shampoo designed for double-coated or heavy-shedding breeds is generally the better starting point, since ordinary shampoos are not always formulated to work through a dense undercoat properly, and residue left behind in a thick coat can lead to skin irritation over time.
Gentle, mild formulas matter more than fragrance or added extras for most Corgis, since their skin can be sensitive underneath all that coat, and a shampoo that strips too much natural oil can leave the coat dry and more prone to matting rather than less.
Why the brush matters as much as the shampoo
No shampoo alone controls shedding in a double-coated breed — regular brushing before and after a bath, using a tool suited to reaching the undercoat rather than just the top layer, does far more to manage loose hair than the product used in the water.
Bathing too frequently can actually work against a Corgi's coat, since it is naturally somewhat weather-resistant and self-cleaning between washes. Most Corgis do better on a bathing schedule of every few weeks rather than every week, with regular brushing filling the gaps in between.
During the coat blow
