The full-size version of the Cupid & Comet pigs in blankets, Rosewood's Christmas dog range. A sausage wrapped in strips of chicken with cranberry through it, in a 90g festive pack. The point of the jumbo is chew time: a standard pig in blanket is gone in one bite and this one is not.

The label puts chicken at 57% and pork and pork by-products at 15%, with cranberries at 4%, then soy protein, wheat flour, corn starch, vegetable glycerine, sorbitol, salt and potassium sorbate. It is a semi-moist treat at 25% moisture rather than a baked biscuit, which is why it is chewier and more aromatic than its size suggests.

The blanket outweighs the pig, by nearly four to one. It is called a pig in blanket and the chicken wrap is 57% of it against 15% pork, so if you are buying it because your dog does better on pork than on poultry, this is the wrong treat. The pork that is in it is declared as “pork and pork by-products” rather than named cuts, which is normal for this kind of wrapped treat and worth knowing if you read labels closely. At 23% protein and 7% fat it is rich, so take it off the day's food rather than adding it on top.

Who it's for: a medium or large dog that deserves something proper on Christmas morning, and an owner who would rather give one long chew than a handful of little ones.
