This is the richest stick in the hamster range and the one hamsters go for first. Nuts are at 14.8%, which is a genuinely large proportion for a baked nibble stick, and there are dried currants at 1.5% on top of that. It comes as two sticks with cage clips, on natural wood, baked in three layers so it takes real work to get through.

The full declaration is cereals, nuts 14.8%, derivatives of vegetable origin, fruits with currants at 1.5%, minerals at 1.1% and honey. Vitakraft add vitamin A at 6600 IU and vitamin D3 at 660 IU per kilo. The feeding guidance on the UK pack is blunt: one Kräcker maximum per week, as a treat, with fresh water always available.

How much fat is in it?

Not published. Pets at Home's transcription of the pack prints "Analytical Constituents: Not stated", and Vitakraft's own listing for this recipe carries no panel either. With nuts at 14.8%, the fat content is clearly high, but nobody has put a number on it.

One a week really?

That is what the pack says, and we would not argue with it. This is the highest-nut stick in the range and a hamster is a very small animal.

My hamster hoarded the whole thing. Does that matter?

Yes, a bit. Hoarding means the weekly limit becomes a daily habit somewhere in the bedding, and nut-rich food also goes rancid. Take the stick out after a session rather than leaving it clipped in all week.

Is it colour-free and preservative-free?

The declarations disagree, and we would rather say so. Pets at Home's transcription of the UK pack lists no sensory or technological additives, while Vitakraft's own German listing for the same recipe records a preservative and the supplier record we received mentions colouring. If you are strict about either, treat it as preserved.

Is it suitable for dwarf hamsters?

It is sold for hamsters generally, but a dwarf hamster is a fraction of the size of a Syrian and is prone to putting on weight. Break a piece off rather than giving a whole stick.
