Specifications

Brand: Tetra

Full description

Tap water is treated to be safe for people, not fish, and topping up a pond straight from the hose puts chlorine and trace metals into water a fish can't simply avoid.

TetraPond AquaSafe treats tap water before it goes into a pond, neutralising chlorine and chloramines and binding heavy metals such as copper and cadmium. Tetra add organic colloids to protect a fish's mucus membrane and vitamin B1 to support the immune system and stress response. It comes in a 500ml bottle.

On dosing. Tetra don't give a treatment rate (how much per litre of pond water) on the facts we hold, so check the bottle for the correct dose rather than guessing by eye.

Who it's for: pond keepers topping up or partially changing pond water, especially after heavy rainfall or when filling a new pond, who want the tap water made safe before the fish are back in it.

Common questions

What does it do?

How big is the bottle?

Does it contain anything for fish health beyond water treatment?

Yes — vitamin B1, which Tetra say helps support the immune system and stress response.

Tetra Pond Aquasafe

Why we chose it

It's specifically for ponds rather than a repackaged aquarium product, which matters because pond volumes and top-ups are a different job to a tank water change. Treating the water before it reaches the fish is simpler than trying to fix a problem once they're already in it.
