Frequent water changes are stressful for fish every time they happen, which is a fair trade-off for keeping the tank healthy, right up until there's a way to do it less often.

Tetra's EasyBalance is added to aquarium water to replicate the effect of a water change without actually doing one: it adds elements not found in tap water, helps control algae, actively reduces nitrate and phosphate, and stabilises pH and KH. Tetra state that regular use reduces the need for water changes to a minimum of once every 3 to 6 months, and it's suitable for all freshwater aquaria.
