Specifications

Brand: Tetra

Full description

Tap water is treated to be safe for people, and that treatment is exactly what makes it unsafe for fish straight out of the tap — chlorine and chloramine that barely register on a human are lethal to gills.

Tetra's AquaSafe for Goldfish is a water conditioner that immediately transforms chlorinated tap water into water suitable for a goldfish tank. It neutralises chlorine completely, binds heavy metals, and Tetra say its colloids protect and help repair the fish's mucous layer, alongside added vitamins to reduce stress. It's intended for use whenever tap water is added, when transporting fish, and for quarantine treatment.

What isn't specified. No dosage rate per litre of water is given on the information we hold, so dose from the bottle's own instructions rather than a figure quoted here.

Who it's for: goldfish and coldwater fish keepers doing a water change, setting up a new tank, or moving fish, who need tap water made safe immediately rather than left to stand.

Tetra Goldfish Aquasafe

Why we chose it

A water conditioner is one of those unglamorous products that's genuinely essential rather than optional, and Tetra naming what it actually does — chlorine neutralised, heavy metals bound, mucous layer supported — rather than just 'makes water safe' is worth something. It's a small bottle, so it's an easy add rather than a big commitment.
