Fibre is the number that matters in any rabbit food, and it matters for a mechanical reason rather than a nutritional one — a rabbit's gut only keeps moving if there is enough of it, and gut stasis is one of the commonest ways a rabbit ends up at a vet. At 19% this is a high-fibre food, which is the right shape.

Supreme formulate this specifically for young rabbits aged 4 to 20 weeks and for pregnant and lactating does. It is a single-component food, which prevents selective feeding — the habit of picking out the tasty bits and leaving the balanced ones that ruins the point of a mixed ration. The composition leads with alfalfa, then wheat, soybean hulls, soybean meal, wheat feed, flaked peas, spinach and linseed. The analysis is crude protein 17%, crude fibre 19%, crude oils and fats 4%, crude ash 8%, calcium 0.8%, sodium 0.3% and phosphorus 0.5%. No added sugars and no artificial colourants.

Pellets are the smallest part of a rabbit's diet. Whatever the bag says, the bulk of what a rabbit eats should be hay or grass — freely available, all day, every day — with a measured amount of pellets and some fresh greens alongside. Feeding pellets to appetite is one of the commonest causes of an overweight rabbit with dental disease, because it is the chewing of hay that wears the teeth down. This food is for the 4 to 20 week window and for breeding does; an adult rabbit needs the adult formulation, which is lower in protein and calcium.
