Specifications

Brand: Supa

Full description

Grinding and calcium are two separate jobs in a hen's diet, and rather than buy two different grits for them, this one combines both in a single tub.

This is a mixture of flint grit and oystershell grit: the flint aids the grinding of food in the gizzard, while the oystershell is a source of calcium, absorbed into the body and used in eggshell formation as well as general wellbeing.

Mixture of flint grit and oystershell grit
Flint aids grinding of food in the gizzard
Oystershell provides a source of calcium
Supports eggshell formation and general wellbeing
Supplied in a resealable tub to help avoid contamination

One thing worth knowing. the listing doesn't give a ratio of flint to oystershell in the mix, or a feeding rate, so if you need the two in a specific proportion for your flock's needs, that detail isn't something we can confirm.

Who it's for: chicken keepers who want one grit product covering both digestion and calcium, rather than buying and dosing two separately.

Supa Poultry Mixed Grit

Why we chose it

Combining grinding grit and calcium grit into one tub is simply less to manage day to day than running two separate products, and both jobs matter for a healthy flock. It's a sensible middle-ground purchase for anyone who doesn't want to think too hard about which grit does what.
