Full description

A guinea pig's digestive system runs on a constant supply of fibre in a way that makes the composition of a 'complete' feed matter more than it would for a lot of other small pets.

Selective build this from Timothy hay, soya bean hulls, flaked peas, ground soya bean meal, ground dried locust beans, pea flour and whole brown linseeds, with soya bean oil, calcium carbonate and yucca extract. It's grain-free, and the pack carries a warning that it may contain genetically modified soya and traces of nuts. Selective's own guidance is 40-50g a day for an average adult guinea pig, alongside fresh vegetables, good hay and water. It analyses at 16.0% protein, 20.0% crude fibre, 4.0% fat and 5.0% inorganic matter.

On allergen warnings. The pack itself carries a may-contain warning for soya (some of it genetically modified) and traces of nuts — worth checking against any household where those are a concern, human or animal.

Who it's for: owners of a guinea pig who want a grain-free complementary feed, in a household with no nut allergy concerns around the packaging.

Selective Naturals Guinea Pig Grain Free

Why we chose it

Grain-free is a sensible default for a guinea pig, and Selective build it around Timothy hay rather than cereal fillers. The may-contain nut warning is the kind of detail worth having on record rather than finding out the hard way.
