Desert reptiles dig and burrow because their natural habitat lets them, and a substrate that doesn't support that behaviour is only ever decorative rather than doing the job it's there for.

Pettex's Reptile Desert Sand is heat-treated and sanitised, built to recreate a close-to-natural desert habitat for desert-dwelling species. It's described as an excellent heat conductor, which helps warmth from under-tank heating reach through to the animal, and it stimulates natural digging and burrowing behaviour as well as serving as an egg-laying substrate.

• 10-litre pack
• Reptile-friendly sand, heat-treated and sanitised
• Creates a close-to-natural desert habitat
• Described as an excellent heat conductor
• Stimulates natural digging and burrowing behaviour
• Suitable as an egg-laying substrate

One thing worth knowing. Pettex don't address impaction risk or name which species it's unsuitable for on the information supplied — sand substrates are a topic some keepers research carefully for their particular species, and that's worth doing separately from anything stated here.

Who it's for: keepers of desert-dwelling reptile species who want a substrate that actually supports digging and burrowing, not just a desert look.
