Full description

A rabbit's gut is built to process near-constant fibre, not the occasional treat, which is why hay rather than pellets is meant to make up the bulk of the diet — and the plainer the hay, the closer it is to what that gut actually evolved to handle.

Oxbow's Western Timothy is 100% Timothy hay, with no other ingredients added — it's preservative and additive free. As loose hay it naturally contains a mix of stems, leaves and a limited amount of seed heads rather than being a uniform, processed product.

100% Timothy hay, nothing else added
Preservative and additive free
Crude protein (min) 7.00%, crude fat (min) 1.50%, crude fibre (max) 32.00%, moisture (max) 15.00%
Loose hay: a natural mix of stems, leaves and limited seed heads
425g or 1.1kg pack

On feeding amounts. Oxbow's own instruction is to offer it in unlimited amounts, and it can be mixed with other Oxbow grass hays — there's no upper limit given because hay is meant to be available more or less constantly for a rabbit or guinea pig, unlike a measured pelleted feed.

Who it's for: owners of rabbits, guinea pigs or other small herbivores who want a plain, single-ingredient hay to make up the bulk of the diet, rather than a hay blended with dried fruit or flowers.

Why we chose it

A single-ingredient hay with nothing added is the safer default when you're not sure what else is already in a pet's diet, and the declared fibre figure — 32% max — is the number that actually matters for gut health in a rabbit or guinea pig. It's also a repeat-purchase staple rather than a one-off, which makes it worth stocking properly.
