Rabbits and guinea pigs are built to forage constantly through the day rather than eat two set meals, and a dried leaf mix scattered through hay is one of the few ways to bring that natural grazing habit into a hutch or cage.

This one is Natural Nibbles' Plantain & Blackcurrant Salad: dried plantain leaves, echinacea leaves and blackcurrant leaves, sold as a complementary food in a 100G pack. It's a wet-processed leaf product rather than a hard pellet, and the maker's own feeding guidance is that it suits rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils and most small animals, either fed daily as it is or mixed through hay. Once opened, it should be kept in a cool, dry place.

• 100G dried leaf mix
• Plantain, echinacea and blackcurrant leaves
• Crude protein 11.9%, crude oils 1.7%, crude fibre 22.7%, crude ash 10.7%
• Complementary food, for daily feeding or mixing with hay
• Store in a cool, dry place once opened

One thing worth knowing. This is high in fibre (22.7%) and low in protein, which suits a herbivore's normal diet, but it's a complementary food rather than a complete one — it's meant to go alongside hay and a proper pellet or nugget diet, not to replace either.

Who it's for: owners of rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils and similar small animals who want to encourage natural foraging behaviour with something to mix through hay.
