Starch is nearly two thirds of it by weight, which is what gives the tunnel its rigidity and is also the thing the name does not prepare you for. It is called a hay burrow and it is 64.6% starch. Hay is the second ingredient at 29%, and the crude fibre figure of 7.9% is the consequence: this is a structure that happens to be edible, not a forage product. An animal that eats the whole thing over a few days has taken on a meaningful amount of starch, which matters more for a chinchilla or a degu than it does for a rabbit. Put it in as furniture on top of unlimited hay, and if it is disappearing fast, take it out for a while rather than replacing it.
