Full description

A treat with one ingredient on the label is either a sign of confidence or a sign there wasn't much else to say, and dried apple on its own is a case of the former.

The composition is simply dried apple — nothing else named on this card, no added sugar, colour or preservative. It's tasty, succulent and about as straightforward as a small-animal treat gets. Mr Johnson's make a small range of these single-ingredient dried treats, and this one uses apple rather than any other fruit, dried down to a chewable texture without anything else added to it.

Single ingredient: dried apple
Protein 1%, fibre 8%, fat 0.3%, crude ash 0.25%
Suitable for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats and mice
Classed as a complementary treat, not a diet on its own
70G pack

On the small print. Mr Johnson's don't state a piece count or size for the 70G pack, and there's no added sugar or preservative listed — which is worth knowing precisely because there's so little else on the card to go on.

Who it's for: owners of any of the small pets listed above wanting a genuinely single-ingredient treat, particularly where a pet reacts badly to mixed or flavoured snacks.

Why we chose it

One ingredient on the label is rare enough that it's worth pointing out rather than assuming everyone reads the back of the pack. It suits pets on a restricted or sensitive diet as much as it suits anyone wanting a plain, honest treat.
