A shallow, wide bowl lets a cat eat without pressing its whiskers against the sides on every mouthful, which is the practical reason cat bowls tend to be shorter and broader than dog ones rather than a smaller version of the same shape.

Moderna's Smarty bowl in the X-Small size is built to that shape: low-sided, food-approved plastic with a non-slip base to keep it from sliding across the floor as a cat noses at the last of the food, and dishwasher safe for cleaning between meals.

• 210ml capacity
• L 14.7 x W 13 x H 3.4cm
• BPA-free, non-toxic plastic
• Non-slip base
• Dishwasher safe
• Colour: Soft Green

One thing worth knowing. Moderna describe the base as non-slip, but no independent grip figures are supplied, and no weight for the bowl itself is published — so on a very smooth floor, a lightweight plastic bowl can still shift more than a heavier ceramic one would.

Who it's for: owners of a single cat who want a small, shallow bowl sized for one meal at a time rather than a large shared feeding station.
