Garden birds need calories more than variety through the colder months, which is the entire logic behind a suet-based butter rather than a seed mix alone.

This bird butter is made from wheat flour, peanut butter, beef suet and a seed mix, with turmeric used as a natural colourant, dried mealworms and black soldier fly larvae powder added through the mix. It analyses at 29% crude fat, 8% crude protein, 3% crude fibre and 1% crude ash, and the pot is designed to sit inside a compatible feeder for a snug fit.

• Wheat flour, peanut butter, beef suet and seed mix base
• Dried mealworms and black soldier fly larvae powder added
• Turmeric used as a natural colourant
• Crude fat 29%, crude protein 8%, crude fibre 3%, crude ash 1%
• Insert pot into a compatible feeder; remove and refill once empty
• 375g pot

On the insect content. Mealworms and black soldier fly larvae are named ingredients here, but Love Wildlife don't break out what percentage of the mix each makes up — so while insect content is genuinely on the label, it's listed rather than quantified, and the 8% protein figure covers the whole product rather than the insect element specifically.

Who it's for: garden bird feeders who want a high-fat suet product with insect ingredients included, particularly through colder months when birds need the calories.
