Product description

The rabbit and guinea pig version of Johnson's fruity stick, identical in build to the hamster one and aimed at a rather different digestive system. It clips between the bars and gets worked at rather than eaten at a sitting.

The composition is selected seeds, nuts and cereals, with nutritious dried fruits including apple, apricot, banana, raisins and currants, enriched with honey. Five fruits named and no percentage against any of them. It is a 45g stick, and the pack carries Johnson's warning in capitals that this is a complementary treat to be given occasionally and must not replace the normal balanced diet.

* Selected seeds, nuts and cereals * Dried apple, apricot, banana, raisins and currants * Enriched with honey * For rabbits and guinea pigs * 45g, and the pack says occasional

This is the same stick as the hamster version, going to an animal that handles sugar rather worse. Rabbits and guinea pigs run on fibre and their gut flora is easily upset by a sudden load of sugar and starch, which is why Johnson's print the occasional-use warning on this one and not on the hamster line. There is no analytical panel to tell you how much sugar is actually in it. Hay first, and this in small amounts on top.

Who it's for: Rabbit and guinea pig keepers who want something to clip in the cage for enrichment, on a diet where hay is already doing the real work.

Why we chose it

We stock it for the enrichment rather than the nutrition, and the clip format is what does that job. The brand printing its own occasional-use warning on the pack is the reason it is this stick and not one of the unlabelled ones.

Common questions

What is in it?

Selected seeds, nuts and cereals, with dried apple, apricot, banana, raisins and currants, enriched with honey.

Is it the same as the hamster fruity stick?

The published ingredient list and the 45g weight are the same. The difference is the species it is sold for, and this one carries the occasional-feeding warning that the hamster version does not.

How often can a rabbit have one?

Johnson's say occasionally, and that it must not replace the normal balanced diet. They give no more precise figure and publish no analysis, so err small.

Is there a sugar or fibre figure?

No. Johnson's Veterinary Products publish no analytical constituents panel for any product they make.

Does it clip to the cage?

Yes, it is built as a stick for that, which is most of its enrichment value.

How long does delivery take?

Your estimated delivery date is shown above and updates automatically. UK orders are sent tracked — standard delivery is £2.99, and free on orders over £39.

How do I track my order?
