White and light coats show every stain in a way darker fur simply doesn't — a patch of drool, grass or mud that would vanish on a black dog reads as a visible mark for weeks on a pale one, which is the whole reason brightening shampoos exist as their own category.

This 5 litre trade-size shampoo is described by Johnson's as a luxury formula containing a special optical brightener and conditioner, for dogs and cats with white and light-coloured coats.

• 5 litre bottle

• For white and light-coloured coats
• Suitable for dogs and cats

On ground-in stains. An optical brightener works on the appearance of the coat's own colour — it is not a stain remover for something like grass or mud already ground in, so a genuinely stained coat may need spot treatment or a proper wash first before this does its job.

Who it's for: owners or groomers regularly washing white or light-coated dogs and cats who want a shampoo formulated specifically for keeping that coat looking bright rather than a general-purpose wash.
