Washing a cat is rarely anyone's favourite task, cat included, which makes a mild, non-irritant formula more important here than on most shampoos — a harsh wash on an already-stressed cat makes the whole experience worse for next time too.

This 200ml retail-size shampoo contains citronella essential oil and is paraben free, described by Johnson's as mild and non-irritant. It helps cleanse fleas and other insects from the coat while deodorising and beautifying it, and it's for cats and kittens over 8 weeks of age. Johnson's frame it as part of a wider programme to help keep pets and their surroundings free from fleas, rather than a standalone fix.

On what washing alone won't fix. A flea shampoo removes what's on the coat at the time of washing — it does not leave lasting protection afterwards, so Johnson's own framing is as part of a programme alongside a proper ongoing flea treatment, rather than a replacement for one.

Who it's for: owners of a cat or kitten over 8 weeks old, wanting a gentle, retail-sized shampoo as part of managing fleas alongside an ongoing treatment.
