Full description

A reptile kept indoors gets none of the natural sunlight its body expects, and without a UVB source standing in for it, calcium absorption and bone development can go wrong in ways that only show up once they're already a problem. Lighting is not decoration in a reptile enclosure - it's part of the animal's diet.

The Exo Terra Reptile UVB300 is a Very High Output T5 bulb rated at 14% UVB, using Exo Terra's Sunergy phosphor blend and intended for species that bask in open or mid-day sunlight - desert and savannah animals, in Ferguson Zones 3-4. Exo Terra say the UVA output stimulates appetite, activity and reproductive behaviour, while the UVB aids vitamin D3 synthesis and calcium absorption and helps guard against Metabolic Bone Disease. It measures 34 inches and is recommended for use with the T5 Terrarium Top.

Important. Exo Terra's own safety note says positioning and distance from basking areas need careful consideration to avoid overexposure - and we haven't been given a specific safe distance for this bulb, so check Exo Terra's guidance for your exact set-up rather than guessing a distance.

Who it's for: keepers of desert or savannah reptiles - species that naturally bask in strong, open sunlight - running a T5 fitting rather than a compact or T8 set-up.

Exo Terra Reptile Uvb300 T5 39w Bulb

Why we chose it

Getting UVB output wrong is one of the more consequential mistakes in reptile keeping, so a named output percentage and a clear Ferguson Zone rating are worth more here than most other specs on the page. A 34-inch T5 also suits larger vivariums that a shorter bulb wouldn't properly cover.
