On the feeding range
Dr John's own guidance gives a 40-80g daily range for an adult ferret, and says it will vary with body weight, activity and environment — it's a starting point rather than a fixed number, so weigh what your ferret actually eats over a week or two and adjust from there.
Why we chose it
It's formulated for ferrets rather than adapted from a cat food, and the protein and fat figures show it. That's worth paying attention to on an animal whose diet is so often an afterthought on the shelf.

Full description
Ferret food gets far less shelf space than dog or cat food, which usually means owners end up feeding something that wasn't really formulated for a ferret at all. Dr John built Merlin specifically around the species rather than adapting a small-animal blend.
It's a complete recipe led by poultry meal at 46% chicken, with wheat, chicken fat at 10%, rice at 4%, yeast, potato, linseed at 3%, chicken liver, egg, fish meal and beet pulp at 1%. Crude protein comes in at 37.5% with crude oils and fats at 20%, which is a considerably richer profile than most cat or dog food carries.
- Poultry meal (46% chicken), with chicken liver and egg
- Crude protein 37.5%, crude oils and fats 20%
- Crude fibre 2%, crude ash 6.5%
- 10KG bag
- A typical maintenance amount is 40-80g daily for an adult ferret

Who it's for: owners of one or more pet or working ferrets who want a food built for the species specifically, in a 10kg bag sized for more than a single animal.
