A treat named after a vegetable does not always put that vegetable anywhere near the top of the ingredient list, and it is worth reading past the name to see where it actually sits.

Critter's Choice Carrot Drops are made from wheat flour, vegetable fat, sucrose, EEC permitted colourants and dried carrot — carrot is the last named ingredient in the list, after the sugar and colourants. Nutritionally they come out at protein 14.5%, oils and fat 6.8%, fibre 0.9% and ash 2.1%. The manufacturer's guide is up to 6 drops a day.

On the name: dried carrot is the last ingredient listed in the composition, after wheat flour, vegetable fat, sucrose and colourants — the "carrot" in the name is a flavour note on a sugar-and-cereal base rather than the main ingredient.

Who it's for: owners wanting a colourful, occasional treat for a small animal, given as a reward rather than a fibre or vegetable source.
