Indoor cats hunt nothing all day, and that boredom surfaces as three-in-the-morning zoomies or a bowl cleared in one sitting. A foraging box hands some of the work back: kibble goes down into the cut-out channels and recesses, and getting it out again takes a paw, the right angle and a certain amount of patience.

The body is bamboo rather than plastic, which gives it enough weight to stay put when a cat leans on it and enough grip for claws to work against. Alongside the treat recesses there is a track holding a ball with a bell inside, so there is still something to bat at once the food has gone and the cat has not finished. It sits flat, wipes out and needs no batteries.

On cleaning and first use. Bamboo does not go in the dishwasher and should not be left to soak, so wipe it out and let it dry, and keep wet food out of it altogether. Some cats take a day or two to work out that the box holds food, so start with treats sitting on top in plain view rather than buried down in the channels.

Who it's for: Indoor cats short on stimulation, and fast eaters whose dinner would be far better spread over ten minutes than ten seconds.
