Wet food gone in eleven seconds is a problem with a simple mechanical solution: spread it thin across a textured surface and the cat has to work for it. This is a silicone mat moulded into a fish shape, with channels and ridges across the surface that hold pate, mousse or a lickable treat in place while the cat licks it back out again.

The licking itself is the useful part beyond the slowing down. It is a repetitive, self-soothing action, which is why lick mats get used to occupy a cat through nail trims, grooming, or the twenty minutes before a car journey. Food-grade silicone is flexible enough to bend when you rinse it out, and it goes in the dishwasher, which is more than can be said for most textured feeders.

• Food-grade silicone, moulded in a fish shape
• Textured channels hold wet food and lickable treats
• Slows fast eaters and reduces gulping
• Doubles as a distraction during grooming and nail trims
• Rinses out and is dishwasher safe
• Five design options

On the measurements. No suction backing is listed either, so expect it to slide on a hard floor unless you sit it on a damp cloth or inside a shallow tray.

Who it's for: Cats who inhale their food, and anyone looking for a cheap way to occupy one through a stressful five minutes.
