Sand on a cage or aviary floor does two jobs at once - it makes cleaning up droppings straightforward, and for birds that peck at grit, it can support digestion too, which is why plain builder's sand is not really a substitute for a product made for the purpose. Pettex's version is graded superfine and has oyster shell added specifically for that second job.

The oyster shell content is included, Pettex say, to aid digestion and to provide trace elements and minerals, alongside the sand's main role of making the cage or aviary floor easy to clean. It is suitable for budgies, canaries, cockatiels, finches and parrots, and is intended for use across the floor of cages and aviaries generally rather than one specific setup.

• Superfine graded bird sand
• Added oyster shell
• Suitable for budgies, canaries, cockatiels, finches and parrots
• For use on cage and aviary floors
• Oyster shell said to aid digestion and provide trace elements

On what's missing. No particle size or weight-to-volume figure is given on this card beyond it being described as superfine, so if you are matching it to a specific tray or cage floor area, that measurement is not published here.

Who it's for: owners of cage or aviary birds who want a floor sand that doubles as a source of grit and minerals, rather than a purely cosmetic substrate.
