Full description

Naming the individual ingredients in a forage blend rather than hiding them behind one collective term is the kind of detail that separates a real recipe from a marketing label.

The base is grass (35%), gram flour, pea flour and cold pressed rapeseed oil, with dried carrot, a summer forage blend (4%), dried spinach (2%) and dried blackcurrant (1%), plus dried peas, fresh blueberries and tomato pomace. Burgess build the base the same way across several of their small-animal treats, with grass forming the largest single share of the recipe and the named fruits and vegetables sitting on top of that rather than replacing it.

Grass 35%
Summer forage blend 4%, dried spinach 2%, dried blackcurrant 1%
Fresh blueberries and tomato pomace also included
Protein 15.2%, fat 11.1%, crude fibre 10.1%, crude ash 5.7%
Classed as a complementary treat
60G pack

What's not on this card. Fresh blueberries and tomato pomace are both in the composition but without a stated percentage, unlike the summer forage blend, dried spinach and dried blackcurrant, which are all given a figure.

Who it's for: owners of rabbits and guinea pigs wanting a varied, grass-based treat with several named fruits and vegetables.

Why we chose it

A recipe with this many named ingredients, several of them given a percentage, is more transparent than most treats in this category. We'd rather note the two figures that are missing than pretend the card is more complete than it is.
