Garden birds do not tolerate an audience. Everything worth watching happens in the four seconds after you leave the window, which is why most people's birdwatching amounts to a blur through the kitchen glass. Putting the camera inside the feeder, close enough to fill the frame, turns those four seconds into something you can watch afterwards, from the sofa, at your own speed, and again if you missed it.

Power comes from a solar panel with a low-power battery behind it, backed up by a USB cable for the weeks when there is no sun worth the name. The lens takes in 120 degrees, wide enough to hold the whole seed tray in shot, and it records 1080p video and 24MP stills over Wi-Fi. The housing carries an IP66 rating, so rain and dust have been accounted for rather than hoped about.
