A crate that only works in one room stops being useful the day you need it somewhere else - at the vet's, on a trip, or just moved to a quieter corner while the house has visitors. That is the case for a folding design: it goes from a full-size crate to a flat panel in seconds, and back again just as fast.

It is a wire-frame crate in the XL size, with a slide-in plastic tray in the base that lifts out for cleaning rather than needing the whole crate tipped up. There is a door at the front and a second one on the side, so you can place it against a wall and still have an entry point, and a carry handle on top for moving it from room to room without folding it down first.

• Wire frame construction, folds flat for storage or transport
• XL size
• Removable slide-in plastic tray in the base
• Two doors: one front, one side
• Slide-bolt latches on both doors
• Top carry handle

What Best Pets don't tell us. There are no outer or internal measurements on the card for this crate, only the size label XL, so if you are working to a specific space - a car boot, a gap between furniture - it is worth checking a size chart against your dog's own measurements rather than the label alone, since XL means different things across brands.

Who it's for: owners who need a crate that earns its keep in more than one place - home, car, holiday - and who would rather have two doors and a lift-out tray than one fixed side.
