Not every layers feed goes out of its way to say how it gets a golden yolk, and this one is a useful contrast to a feed that relies on maize and grass for colour instead — it uses a named colour additive.

Argo Value Layers Pellets combine wheat, wheatfeed, soya, rape, calcium carbonate, molasses, maize, added vitamins and minerals, a binder (E565) and canthaxanthin. Analysis gives 16.5% crude protein, 2% crude oil, 6% crude fibre, 11% crude ash, 3.4% calcium, 0.6% phosphorus and 0.15% sodium. Argo describe it as a complete compound feed for hens, fed on an ad-lib basis with clean fresh water always available.

• Crude protein 16.5%, crude oil 2%, crude fibre 6%, crude ash 11%
• Calcium 3.4%, phosphorus 0.6%, sodium 0.15%
• Contains canthaxanthin, a colour additive, and binder E565
• Composition includes soya from genetically modified soya beans
• Complete compound feed, fed ad-lib
• 20KG bag

One thing worth knowing. Canthaxanthin is included specifically to enhance the yolk colour, which is different from the "no artificial colourant, maize and grass do the job" approach some other layers feeds in this range take — if you specifically want a feed without an added colourant, this isn't that one.

Who it's for: keepers who want a straightforward, lower-cost complete layers feed and aren't concerned about a named colour additive being part of how the yolk colour is achieved.
