Lamb is usually the protein owners reach for when a dog has struggled on chicken, and Arden Grange's Partners range gives it the same treatment as their chicken recipe: fresh lamb at 70%, well ahead of the 6% rice that follows it, so the meat content is the headline rather than a minor ingredient among fillers.

Alongside the lamb and rice, the recipe includes minerals, peas, carrots, beet pulp, fish oil, seaweed extract, glucosamine, chondroitin, cranberry and yucca extract — the same supporting cast as the chicken version, built around joint health as much as protein. The analysis shows moisture at 70%, crude protein 11%, fat content 8%, crude ash 3.5% and crude fibre 1%. It is supplied as six 395g cans.

On why lamb specifically. Lamb is often tried as a change of protein for a dog that has not done well on chicken or beef, though switching proteins for a sensitivity is worth discussing with a vet rather than guessing — this recipe still contains fish oil, so it is not a single-protein diet if that is what you are specifically looking for.

Who it's for: owners of adult dogs who want a high-meat, fresh lamb wet food, particularly if chicken has not agreed with their dog in the past.
