Everything this is made for is a prey animal, and a prey animal that cannot get out of sight never fully switches off. A hide is not decoration in an enclosure. It is the thing that lets the occupant stop watching the room, and an enclosure without one is a very well-appointed open field.

Ancol build this one from wood, on purpose: it is meant to be gnawed as well as sat in, and gnawing is how a small animal's teeth stay the right length. It measures 35 x 28 x 30cm and arrives to be assembled. The detail worth noticing is the flat roof — it means other hides or enrichment toys can be stacked on top of it, so one purchase becomes a platform and an enclosure gains a level rather than just a box. Ancol list it for degus, hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, chinchillas, mice, guinea pigs and rats.
