Ferrets are obligate carnivores with a gut transit time measured in hours, which is why feeding them cat food is a compromise rather than a solution — they need protein high, fat high, and fibre almost absent, and most cat foods are not built that way. A food formulated for ferrets is one of the few places in this shop where species-specific genuinely means something.

Alpha build this as a complete diet for working, pet and show ferrets of all ages. Poultry meat meal is 27% of it and fish meal 15%, with whole wheat, whole maize, poultry oil, maize gluten meal, brewers yeast, sugar beet, whole linseed and yucca extract. Taurine is added. The analysis is crude protein 36%, crude oils and fats 19%, crude fibres 2% and crude ash 9% — high protein, high oil, very low fibre, which is the shape a ferret needs. It is a crunchy extruded nugget, and there are no artificial colours or flavours.

36% protein and 19% oil is the point, not a boast. A ferret fed on a lower-protein food loses condition, and one fed on something high in fibre or carbohydrate does not digest it — their gut is simply not built for it. What this does contain is wheat and maize, which some keepers avoid on principle; if that is your position, this is not the bag. Fresh water always available, and store it sealed, because a high-oil food goes rancid faster than a dry dog food will.
