How pheromone calming works
Calming sprays and diffusers release synthetic copies of the natural pheromones cats and dogs use to feel safe — the “happy” messages a mother passes to her young, or the facial pheromones a settled cat rubs around its home. Your pet picks up the signal and the environment simply feels more reassuring.
Because it’s scent-based and species-specific, it’s an easy option for pets who won’t take a chew or wear a vest, and there’s nothing for them to ingest.
Where to use them & how long they take
Plug a diffuser into the room where your pet spends most of its time — for a stressed cat, that’s often near the bed, litter tray or a favourite windowsill; for multi-pet tension, cover the shared spaces. Use sprays on bedding, in the carrier or in the car ahead of travel (let it air for a few minutes first, never spray directly onto your pet).
These work gradually. Sprays help within minutes for a quick situation like a car trip, while diffusers build up over a few days to a couple of weeks, so set them going well before fireworks season, a house move or a new arrival. They support a calmer home but don’t address the underlying cause — for ongoing or severe stress, speak to your vet.
Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.

Common questions
Are calming diffusers safe around children and other pets?
Yes — pheromone diffusers are odourless to people and species-specific, so a cat diffuser won’t affect a dog and vice versa. Use the right one for each species and follow the plug-in instructions.
How long does a diffuser take to work?
Allow several days to a couple of weeks for the effect to build, so plug it in ahead of a known trigger. A spray acts faster for short, one-off situations like a car journey or vet visit.
Can I use a spray and a diffuser together?
Yes, and many owners do — a diffuser keeps the home environment calm while a spray targets the carrier, car or bedding for specific stressful moments. Just match each product to the right species.
