Poultry feed covers what keeps laying hens, other backyard poultry and racing pigeons fed properly, and the right feed changes with the bird's job — a laying hen needs different nutrition from a pigeon being conditioned for racing. Feeding laying hens
Mr Johnson's Layer Pellets is a complete feed formulated to keep laying poultry healthy and productive, and Argo Golden Yolk Layers Meal and Argo Poultry Mix Complete cover the same job in a meal or mixed form, the Argo mix needing no further supplementation. Mr Johnson's Mixed Corn is different — a scratch feed for scattering to encourage natural foraging, meant to sit alongside a proper layers feed rather than replace it.
Grit is worth keeping separate from feed entirely: Mr Johnson's Poultry Grit and Jondo Mixed Poultry Grit both help hens grind down what they eat for better digestion, and are offered free-choice rather than mixed into the feed itself.
Pigeon feed and conditioning
Bucktons Pigeon Young Bird is a seed mix formulated for the March to September breeding season, while Bucktons Pigeon Winter Economy Mix is a resting mix for the moulting and winter period, reflecting how a pigeon's nutritional needs change through the year rather than staying fixed. Bucktons Pigeon Conditioner, sometimes called the Trapping Mix, is an all-year conditioning mix with aniseed oil.
