Feed it on the water, not on the bank
Wildthing's own advice, and it matters: encouraging waterfowl onto a bank brings them towards paths, dogs and roads, and it concentrates droppings where people walk. Spread a few handfuls across different areas of water rather than making one crowd in one spot, and take away whatever is not eaten. Some sites and parks have their own rules about feeding at all, so it is worth a look before you go.
Why we chose it
It floats, which is the whole point and the one thing bread does not do well. A 13kg sack is also the size that makes sense if this is a weekly habit rather than an occasional one.

Full description
Bread is the wrong thing to feed ducks and most people now know it, but the reason is worth stating plainly: it fills birds up without feeding them, and what they do not eat sinks and rots, which fouls the water. This is the straightforward answer to both halves — it floats, so it stays available to the birds instead of sinking, and it is formulated as food rather than as filler.
The composition is wheat, wheatfeed, soya, whole maize, fish meal, soya oil and minerals, with added vitamins and minerals and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. The analysis gives crude protein 18%, crude oils and fats 4%, crude fibre 3.5% and crude ash 4%. It comes as small dry nuggets. Wildthing's instruction is to throw a few handfuls into the water in different areas so the birds can spread out to feed.

Who it's for: anyone who feeds the ducks regularly and would rather do it properly, and people with a pond or a stretch of water of their own.
