The ingredient panel on a budget dry food usually rewards a closer read more than the price tag does, because the headline protein figure and the actual named meat content are often two very different numbers.

Webbox list this recipe's first four ingredients as cereals, meat and animal derivatives, derivatives of vegetable origin, and oils and fats — in that order. The allergens panel gives more detail: meat and animal derivatives make up 32.5% of the recipe, of which 11.5 percentage points is specifically named as chicken. It's a complete food for adult cats, with crude protein at 27%, fat at 11%, fibre at 4% and ash at 9%.

• Complete food for adult cats

• Meat and animal derivatives 32.5%, of which chicken 11.5%
• Protein 27%, fat 11%, fibre 4%, ash 9%

On the meat content. Cereals come before meat and animal derivatives on the ingredients list, and of that 32.5% meat block only 11.5 percentage points is named as chicken — the rest is unspecified. It's an ordinary budget recipe rather than a meat-first one, whatever the name suggests.

Who it's for: owners feeding on a budget who want a complete dry food and aren't chasing a specific named-meat percentage.
