Food type: Complementary_or_treat

Full description

A moulting bird is putting real effort into growing feathers back, which is why treats aimed at that period tend to lean on the ingredients feather growth actually draws on rather than being a plain seed mix with a new label.

Vitakraft's Kracker is a mix of cereals, seeds, derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals and honey, baked onto a stick with a practical cage clip so it stays put rather than rolling around the cage floor. It's specifically aimed at moulting parrots and cockatiels, and the mix contains added colourings and preservatives.

On what it is. This is a complementary treat, not a complete food — Vitakraft's own guidance is that a kracker should always be available in the cage, which makes it more of a standing snack than a measured daily portion, so it shouldn't be the only thing going into a moulting bird's diet.

Who it's for: owners of a cockatiel or parrot going through a moult who want a cage-clipped treat aimed at that period, alongside a proper complete diet rather than instead of one.

Why we chose it

It's specifically marketed for the moulting period rather than as a generic seed treat, which is a genuine point of difference in a category full of near-identical sticks. The cage clip is also a small practical detail that keeps it off the cage floor.
