Naming a treat after the rarer meat in it is a habit this whole aisle has, so it's worth checking what's actually first on the label before assuming the name is the recipe.

Here it holds up: salmon leads at 40% and British venison follows at 20%, ahead of rapeseed glycerol, dried potato, dried sweet potato, cinnamon (1%) and pumpkin (0.5%). Crude protein comes out at 20.8%, crude fat at 12%, crude ash at 3.0%, crude fibre at 1.6% and moisture at 23%, at 319 kcal per 100g. They're air-dried in Yorkshire, and come as a pack of 5.

• Salmon (40%) and British venison (20%) lead the ingredients

• Cinnamon (1%) and pumpkin (0.5%) added for aroma

• Pack of 5

On the calorie count. At 319 kcal per 100g these are a genuinely calorific treat for their size, and the feeding guidance of 1-2 a day is worth sticking to rather than treating them as a low-stakes snack, particularly for a smaller dog.

Who it's for: owners who check the label before buying a "game" or "venison" treat and want the name to actually match the recipe.
